A year-old schoolgirl was kidnapped, gang raped and run over by a car several times, the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court heard on Tuesday. She told the court the driver reversed over her, making a rear tyre spin against her stomach, after which he would drive forward and reverse into her three or four times, breaking bones in her leg, arm and shoulder.
She was testifying during Sibusiso Duma's trial. She did not identify the year-old as her attacker but other evidence, still to be led, would seek to link him to her kidnapping, gang rape and attempted murder with the car.
The teenager said after she was kidnapped with two men, who were shot and wounded and escaped, she was forced at gunpoint to lie on her back in an open area during the rapes and then rammed with the car.
She was taken to Edendale Hospital but transferred to a private hospital, spending two weeks in ICU and three weeks in a general ward. The girl who completed her matric after her hours-long ordeal is now studying at a tertiary institution. She said she still feared "being around people" and did not go out. Acting Judge Kobus Booyens earlier adjourned the proceedings when the girl started crying. She continued testifying after composing herself.
Before the rapes she and two men were kidnapped while they were waiting for a lift. A car drove up to them and they were made to get into it at gunpoint. The driver stopped in a deserted area where he and his associate raped her and rammed her with the car. The indictment alleges that the driver stole the car earlier that evening by shooting dead two men who were in it.
